LARSON MARKS RACING LEAVES KNOXVILLE WITH TWO TOP-FIVE FINISHES

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AUGUST 14, 2017) - Fresh off their Front Row Challenge win at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the Larson Marks Racing team returned to Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway for the 57th Annual 5 Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals.

In their preliminary night on Wednesday, Shane Stewart earned the sixth-fastest lap time in time trials and advanced three positions in his heat race to finish fourth, earning the final transfer spot into the main event. Stewart started the 25-lap feature from seventh on the grid. By lap 15 he advanced to the top five but slipped back one position in the closing laps to finish sixth. Larson Marks co-owner, Kyle Larson, started on the pole and led all 25 laps to win the Wednesday prelim before flying back to Michigan for NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series competition.

As a result of Stewart racing in Australia during the off season, he was able to compete in Friday's SPEED SPORT World Challenge. After a 14-car inversion, Stewart started ninth for the 20-lap event. A couple of laps into World Challenge he had a bobble coming out of Turn 2 and slipped back to 14th. Stewart was able to immediately regain two spots and advanced two more in the closing laps to finish 10th.

After all preliminary competition was complete for the Knoxville Nationals, Stewart sat 10th in overall points, tied with Larson, locking both of them into Saturday's 50-lap finale. The two started next to each other, comprising Row 5. On lap 23, the second caution was displayed, bunching up the field for a the two-lap dash before the halfway caution was displayed for crews to go back to work on their cars. Larson and Stewart were both able to steal two positions on the restart before the third caution was displayed.

Crews went to work in hopes to have the perfect set up for the final 25 laps. When cars returned to the track, Larson restarted from third and Stewart from fifth, with both gaining position when the field went back to green-flag racing. Both maintained their positions in the closing laps, despite Larson making one last run at the leader. Larson ultimately earned the runner-up spot and Stewart finished fourth.

"It's the biggest week of the year for us," said Stewart. "My guys gave me a fast car all week. Justin [Marks] and his wife, Erin, were able to come on Saturday, it was great to have the whole team together. I really wanted to be standing on top of the podium at the end of it, but I'm still thankful we were able to advance and finish fourth. One of these years we will get the win."

Larson Marks Racing will be back in action Friday, August 18 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D.
