MOORESVILLE, N.C. (SEPTEMBER 18, 2017) - The Larson Marks Racing team wrapped up the fall west coast swing this past weekend at Calistoga (Calif.) Speedway with the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown. On Friday, Shane Stewart earned a podium finish and followed that up with a top-10 run on Saturday.
On Friday night, Stewart timed in with the second-quickest lap in qualifying and followed that up with a second-place finish in his heat race. With no inversion for the Craftsman Club Dash, the Bixby, Okla., native started fifth and advanced two positions to earn the third-starting spot for the 25-lap main event. Once the green-flag waved, Stewart settled into the fourth position. In the closing five laps, he dropped back as low as sixth but gained two spots back to finish fourth. Unfortunately for the runner-up finisher, he was too light at the scales, advancing Stewart to a podium result.
The following night, Stewart qualified third and won the evening's final heat race. The four pill was drawn for the Craftsman Club Dash inversion, lining the No. 2 up on the outside of the front row. Stewart led all six laps to earn the pole starting position for the 30-lap feature event. Stewart then settled into the runner-up spot for the first 10 laps, but unfortunately while in lapped traffic and closing in on the leader, he cut a tire from debris on the race track in Turn 4.
The Larson Marks team, with help of many others in the pit area, made repairs to the No. 2 and Stewart was able to get back on track. The pilot of the ENEOS/ParkerStore No. 2 restarted in the 18th position and was up to 15th by the halfway point of the race. With three laps remaining, the caution was displayed and turned into an open red for teams to refuel. Stewart restarted 11th and in the closing laps, he gained another position to rebound with a 10th-place finish.
"Despite cutting a tire the final night, it was a successful weekend for us," said Stewart. "We were able to rebound after trouble to add a top-10 finish to our podium finish from Friday. Our season is winding down and I'm glad to have momentum on our side for the final 15 races."
The Larson Marks Racing team will be back in action Friday, September 22 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for the BeFour the Crowns Showdown.
