MOORESVILLE, N.C. (OCTOBER 23, 2017) - As the 2017 season winds down, Shane Stewart and Larson Marks Racing added two more top-10 finishes to their stats this past weekend. On Friday, The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competed at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., followed up by a thriller at Salina (Okla.) Highbanks Speedway on Saturday.
Friday night, Stewart was the fifth-fastest qualifier in time trials and won the opening heat race from the outside front row starting position. The zero pill was drawn for the Craftsman Club Dash draw inversion, lining up the No. 2 to start on the pole. Stewart then finished second in the dash, to earn a front row starting spot for the 30-lap main event. He ran within the top-five for the first half of the feature, but slipped back as far as seventh just after the halfway point. In the closing laps, Stewart was able to regain a position to finish in sixth-place.
On Saturday, the Bixby, Okla., native kicked off the night by being the quickest qualifier in time trials and winning Heat 1, transferring him into the Craftsman Club Dash. The dash inversion draw was the six pill, fully inverting the field and lining Stewart up to start sixth. He gained a position in the six-lap dash to earn the fifth starting spot for the main event. Stewart quickly moved into the third-running position, before advancing into the runner-up spot just before the halfway mark of the race. In the closing laps, there was an exciting four car battle for the lead in lapped traffic and when the caution was displayed with two laps remaining, Stewart was running fourth. He maintained the position on the Green-White-Checkered restart to earn a solid top-five score.
"I love coming home and racing around Oklahoma," said Stewart. "I wish we could do it more often because we had two great shows. I know the weather could have been a threat on Saturday, but everyone hustled to get the whole show in and it was an awesome race. That just proves we run with the best series. My guys gave me a fast racecar both nights and it feels good to take this momentum into the final two weekends of the season."
The Larson Marks Racing team will be back on track Friday, October 27 at Dodge City (Kan.) Raceway Park for the Outlaw Boot Hill Showdown.
