ALL DIRT ROADS LEAD TO CHARLOTTE: The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series will conclude its long and grueling 2017 season this weekend with three nights of action at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. The Textron Off Road World Finals kicks off this Thursday with all three premier dirt track organizations - the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, World of Outlaws Craftsman Lake Model Series and Super DIRTCar Series Big Block Modifieds - going through time trials that will carry over to Friday and Saturday's shows.
THE DIRT TRACK HISTORY: In ten starts at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, Shane Stewart and the Larson Marks team have earned two runner-up finishes, six top-10 results, three heat race wins, and two quick times. At last year's World Finals, the Bixby, Okla., native qualified second and won his heat race on Friday before finishing seventh in the main event. The following night, Stewart was quick time, won his heat race and finished seventh in the feature.
POINTS BATTLE: Going into the final weekend of the season, Stewart and Daryn Pittman have been jockeying for the fourth spot in the championship point standings for the several past weeks. After strong runs at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., and Salina (Okla.) Highbanks Speedway, Stewart cut Pittman's lead in half and currently trails the Kasey Kahne Racing driver by just 18 markers.
STEWART ON THE SEASON: "Despite our team going through several changes throughout the season, we've still been able to run strong," said Stewart. "We've earned nine wins, our first coming at Williams Grove Speedway [in Mechanicsburg, Penn.] - a track I have always struggled at. Back-to-back wins at West Liberty (Iowa) Speedway and Beaver Dam (Wisc.) Raceway, the first two races with crew chief Lee Stauffer. A big win during the Month of Money with the Front Row Challenge at Southern Iowa Speedway [in Oskaloosa, Iowa] and the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway [in Chico, Calif.] - a race I have always wanted to win. I can't thank my guys enough for all they do throughout the season. I know it's grueling and they always work so hard to provide fast racecars. I hope I can finish out the season strong for them this weekend."
STEWART SIGHTINGS: During the week, fans will have two opportunities to see Stewart off of the race track. He will be at the World Finals Kick Off Party Wednesday night at 26 Acres brewery located at 7285 W. Winds Boulevard NW, Concord, N.C. Stewart will be on stage with Lenny Batycki at 7:35pm local time. On Friday, Stewart will be on stage at The Dirt Track with MRN's Winged Nation at 2:10pm local time.
